Event description

Description

In partnership with the Queensland Human Rights Commission (QHRC) and the Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS), we are pleased to present human rights information sessions in 10 locations across Queensland.

Attendance is free.

Each two-hour session will be facilitated by the QHRC and will cover:

  • the functions of the QHRC
  • modern human rights law
  • human rights law in Queensland
  • responsibilities of public entities, courts and tribunals and the Queensland Parliament
  • compatibility with human rights; and
  • human rights complaint processes.

Sessions are designed to:

  • increase your knowledge about the Human Rights Act and the functions of the QHRC
  • increase your awareness about the practical resources and tools available to help you meet human rights obligations, including human rights complaints processes
  • help connect you with others in the human services sector about human rights issues and implications.

Please click the ‘Select A Time’ button on the right of the page to book your place.

Attendance is limited to 1 or 2 representatives from each organisation.

If the session you want to attend is fully booked please click the ‘join waitlist’ to add your name to the waitlist. We will take note of where there is significant demand for more courses in particular regions and plan for future opportunities. The QHRC have a range of resources, noted above, that can help organisations get ready.

We encourage you to access the wealth of factsheets and resources on the QHRC website and on the government’s human rights information portal www.forgov.qld.gov.au/humanrights.

We look forward to seeing you at a session and continuing our human rights journey together.

If you have any questions you can contact can contact humanrights@csyw.qld.gov.au or HumanRightsCDSS@communities.qld.gov.au for assistance with your enquiry.

This includes accessing resources on the QHRC website and on the government’s human rights information portal www.forgov.qld.gov.au/humanrights, attending QHRC human rights training or contacting the Commission about tailored training options, and accessing human rights material from Community Legal Centres Queensland.
