Event description
Get on the front foot of the impact of Qld's new human rights legislation on the rights of people with disabilities.

About this Event

The new Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld) has been described as the most ‘broad reaching and accessible’ Human Rights Act in Australia. This event will explore the impact of human rights legislation on the rights of people with disabilities particularly in the key areas of Education, Health and Employment.

The Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld) joins the ACT and Victoria as the only Australian jurisdictions with statutory protection for human rights, incorporating 23 fundamental human rights and freedoms, including the economic, social and cultural rights to education and healthcare. As yet, there is no federal Human Rights Act or Charter.

This legislation establishes the mechanism for human rights complaints to be made to the Queensland Human Rights Commission (an accessible, inexpensive way for human rights issues to be heard and resolved).
