Event description

Description

The concept of the Human Library originally started at a music festival in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Human Library is composed of real people who are the human books and they tell their story to the readers (you). These Human Books are people who are subjected to stereotyping and prejudices.

In this event, hosted by Metropolitan Migrant Resource Centre members of the various African communities (as part of the African Leadership Initiative) will be the Human Books. The Human Books will have open conversations about their experiences as migrants in Australia to the Reader. The Book and Reader will be given time to talk openly to each other about issues that may otherwise be considered difficult/sensitive to discuss. The experience for the Reader is like reading bits and pieces of a biography.

Australia is a multicultural country; therefore it is important that people outside of the African community gain a better understanding of some of the issues that African migrants (of all levels) are facing in Australia. We believe that you will find this beneficial and you will be touched by our stories. You are invited to be a “Reader.”
