Event description

Description

Award winning journalist, Hugh Riminton, will be interviewed about his memoir, Minefields, in store, at Ariel book shop, 98 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst. Our interviewer, Jayne Anderson will ask Hugh about his career spanning four decades, as a foreign correspondent and newsman. Hugh has been shot at, threatened with deportation and thrown in jail. He has reported from the scene of massacres, war zones and natural disasters. From genocide in Africa to the Indian Ocean tsunami, from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to slave-buying in Sudan, Hugh has seen the best and worst of human behaviour.
In Australia, Riminton has covered political dramas, the Port Arthur Massacre and the Thredbo disaster. His story is a compelling exploration of a foreign correspondent’s life – entertaining, informative and deeply personal. From a small-town teenager with a drinking problem, to a multi-award winning international journalist reporting to an audience of 300 million people, Hugh has been a frontline witness to our times.
Drinks and light refreshments will be served from 6.00pm
