Event description

Description

The Hills Shire Symphony Orchestra returns to the prestigious Hills Grammar School for its second concert of 2019, Beethoven Triumphant.

One year before we celebrate Ludwig van Beethoven's 250th birthday, the Hills Shire Symphony Orchestra celebrates the life and music of Beethoven by performing three of his most well-known and loved works. The concert opens with the intense and passionate Coriolan Overture, an overture that Beethoven wrote for the five-act tragedy of the same name.

Former local pianist Nicholas Young joins the orchestra, to perform the dazzling Emperor Piano Concerto, a showcase of stunning virtuosity and musicality. Its status as one of music's greatest works for the instruments is cemented by its importance in both epitomizing the great Classical style and being the first great 19th-century romantic concertos.

The concert concludes with the Eroica symphony, perhaps Beethoven's most ambitious and important work at this stage of his musical career. The symphony was originally dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte, but was later dedicated to "the memory of a great man" after Napoleon declared himself Emperor. Certainly, the heroism and grandeur that Beethoven saw in Napoleon is on display in this work, one of colossal proportions that is both a challenge for the orchestran and a musical odyssey for the listener.

Tickets for this event are available online and at the door. Tickets are $30 for adult and $15 for concession.

The concert should conclude at approximately 9:30pm.
