Event description

Description

Does city life make you feel more or less lonely?

Think about it for a second.

We know that cities are full of people, but often that doesn’t stop us from feeling alone in them. In 1903, the German philosopher Georg Simmel observed that “nowhere feels as lonely and lost as in the metropolitan crowd”. And it’s true. Being surrounded by large groups of anonymous strangers can feel overwhelming and confronting.

“You can be lonely anywhere, but there is a particular flavour to the loneliness that comes from living in a city, surrounded by millions of people.” - Olivia Laing

But just as we can choose to feel lonely and lost amongst a large group of strangers, we can also choose to feel connected to those “strangers” — to love them and feel loveable.

In this workshop facilitated by A—SPACE co-founder and meditation teacher, Manoj Dias, we’ll explore what the practices and principles of Buddhist meditation can teach us about connecting deeper with ourselves and the people around us; strangers and loved ones.

If you’ve ever felt alone in this big, beautiful and crazy city then join us for a night filled with connection, curiosity and compassion.
