An opportunity for parents and carers to get clear information from mental health experts and to ask important questions.

About this Event

As part of October Mental Health Month, the Lower North Shore Family Support Network has organised an event for families to get a better understanding of the various options available to them in regards to mental health support.

Schedule:

6:00pm Registration

6:30pm Welcome & Intro

6:35pm: Dr. Gilda Brun - General Practitioner in Cremorne.

6:55pm: Dr. James Ibrahim - Mental Health specialist at Karrikin Youth and Adolescent Mental Health Service.

7:15pm: Break

7:25pm Louise Kelaher - Peer support worker at the Child and Youth Mental Health services. Northern Sydney Local Health District.

7:45pm Jake Casella - Program manager of Open Up at ONE EIGHTY.

8:05pm Questions and networking with service providers.

8:30pm Close

Guest Speakers:

Dr Gilda Brunello - has worked in General Practice both in Sydney and Brisbane for more than 20 years. Over this time she has developed an ever growing interest in Mental Health and young people. She has a strong involvement in the GPs in Schools program which has been instrumental in developing this interest.

Dr James Ibrahim and Dr Paul Fung work at Karrikin Youth and Adolescent Mental Health Service which is a mobile and assertive outreach mental health service for young people aged 12-25 years residing within Northern Sydney and Northern Beaches area, who are experiencing severe and complex mental health concerns.

Dr. James Ibrahim is a Mental Health specialist and Dr Paul Fung is the Clinical Director at Karrikin and the Specialist Lead (Psychiatry) at Health Education and Training Institute.

Louise Kelaher - a peer support worker at the Child and Youth Mental Health services on the Lower North Shore. She uses her lived experience of mental health issues to support young people through crisis and in recovery. Louise also has a background working in adult mental health in the public, PHN and NGO sectors.

Jake Casella - Jake is the program manager of Open Up at ONE EIGHTY. His role is to support the volunteer facilitators and train them in facilitation skills and how to support participants with access to local services, phone numbers and websites.

Open Up is a free community peer support group, helping young people who are socially isolated, living with mental health issues, or who for those who want to connect with other like- minded individuals, listen to other peoples stories, or share what they’re going through.

There will be opportunity for questions and networking with service providers

Unrestricted parking is available on Miller street opposite the Stanton Library from 6pm onwards.

There is also paid parking in the Ridge St Car Park for a flat rate of $9.00 after 6pm. (Just around the corner from the Library. Google Map Link)
