How to build a community micro-forest in 8 steps.
Event Information
About this event
Join Micro forest Maker and Landscape Architect, Edwina Robinson as she shares her her journey building the Downer and Watson Micro-forests during COVID 19.
Based on this experience, Edwina created an Eight Step Method for making micro or tiny forests. In this online session, she will take you through the 8 logical phases - how to measure interest in the project, establish a team, assess key project values, obtain funding (including crowdfunding and business sponsors), run community consultations, get authorities on board and finally to build and maintain the project.
She shares her roller-coaster ride making the first project at Downer Micro-forest. Her journey would have been easier if she had a ‘how to’ guide to follow.
The Downer Micro-forest has inspired the birth of a number of other tiny forests in Canberra. The second micro-forest was built in Watson in 2021. And one will be built in Holt this year. And two other groups have formed, one in Casey and the other in Kambah.
If you live in a part of Australia or the world that's likely to be hotter and drier in the future and you want to be part of a climate change solution, then this is an event you shouldn't miss.
The Eight Step Method can be applied to other community based landscape projects like food forests, pollinator, bush food and/or sensory gardens.
Edwina will present for 45 minutes on the eight steps and share her experiences building the Downer and Watson projects. The presentation will be followed by a 15 minute Q&A. You can send your questions in prior to the workshop starting - climatefactoryaus@gmail.com
Participants from the April and May 2021workshops said Edwina's presentation was fantastic, inspiring and exciting.
Once you've purchased a ticket a Zoom invite will be forwarded to your email address with a login and password code closer to the event. If you haven't received an email invite: call Edwina Robinson 0408 386 381.
In 2021, Edwina was invited to talk at TEDx Canberra on the power of micro-forests.
