‘I’m Not Ok With That’ - Step Up for Gender Equality

Have you ever been told a sexist joke, overheard colleagues speaking disrespectfully about women, or witnessed someone being harassed on the street and thought ‘I’m not ok with that’? But not sure what to do? Or if you should step in?

The City of Adelaide is pleased to offer free Bystander Action Workshops for anyone who would like to learn how to step up for gender equality and actively prevent violence against women.

The stats are real:

 1 in 3 Australian women have experienced physical violence.

 1 in 4 Australian women have experienced violence by an intimate partner.

 1 in 5 Australian women have experienced sexual violence.

 1 woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner.

What can you do?

The change starts with you. By being an active bystander you can be a part of changing these stats for good. In this workshop you will gain an understanding of the issue of violence against women and explore how it can be prevented. You will also learn simple and effective strategies for responding to disrespect, discrimination and violence, to contribute to safe and respectful workplaces and communities.

• What is bystander intervention?

• Explore how and why it is the responsibility of individuals to play a role in preventing violence against women

• Examine how cultural norms shape our attitudes and behaviours
