Bayside Refugee Week Event - How I Became a Refugee Film Screening

Come and join us for this great family event and enjoy some felafel upon arrival (included in price of ticket). Browse stalls hosted by various humanitarian organisations and learn more about local and international initiatives supporting refugees and displaced people. There will be the opportunity to get more involved in campaigns and projects if you’re feeling inspired!

The documentary film screening will be followed by a panel discussion with filmmaker, Dr Marilyn Metta and two people with lived refugee experience before the event draws to a close at 8.30pm.

All ticket sales will go towards supporting the work of Mettamorphosis Inc. a not-for-profit working to provide educational access for refugee and stateless children (www.mettamorphosis.org.au) and a Rockdale based emerging food business established by a woman from a refugee background.

About the film

How I Became a Refugee is a documentary film that follows the extraordinary journey of a Burmese Chin refugee family from their homeland where they escaped religious persecution from the military government through to Malaysia before being resettled in Perth, Western Australia.

What makes a family leave their home? What does it mean to search for home?

(The venue is located a short 2 minute walk from Rockdale Train Station, limited on street parking available).
