Description

NSW Science & Research Breakfast Seminar

Professor David Currow, Chief Cancer Officer of NSW and CEO of the Cancer Institute, presents:

‘How Cancer Outcomes Can Continue to Improve’

While survival rates have improved dramatically in recent times, more Australians are being diagnosed with cancer than ever before.

As head of the NSW Government’s cancer control agency, the Cancer Institute NSW, Professor David Currow is leading the coordinated and collaborative approach to reducing the impact of cancer across the state.

NSW has some of the best cancer outcomes in the world, but Professor Currow insists there is still a lot of work to do to give people diagnosed with cancer the best possible chance of survival.

The early detection of cancer through enhanced screening and the delivery of high-quality healthcare are critical to increasing survival rates. Specific strategies are needed to improve outcomes for high-risk groups within the community, as well as those diagnosed with lung, bowel and primary liver cancer.

NSW is a global leader in cancer research and clinical trials – and ensuring we have the right people and infrastructure to accelerate research and realise clinical benefits is important. Greater collaboration between researchers, clinicians and the community will bring new and exciting prospects for people diagnosed with cancer.
