Ever watched a heart transplant? And no, standing behind an anaesthetic machine to intermittently get glimpses of red stuff in between various surgeons and scrub staff does not count. We mean a surgeon's eye view of the whole thing? Mr Larbalastier, Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the new Fiona Stanley Hospital, has kindly popped a video camera on his head during a transplant, to give us an exciting insight into what happens.

Joining him is Professor Playford, keeping us up to date with the latest developments in right heart failure. Dr Playford has a primary interest in echocardiography and is an author to the well respected Textbook of Echocardiography by Otto.

What is ICN WA?

ICN WA is an addition to the Intensive Care educational scene and is partnered with the intensivecarenetwork.com. Through a series of evening dinners, we will be showcasing the best and fairest educational talent Perth has to offer, kicking off with an evening themed "How To Mend A Broken Heart."

The aim is to bring our WA Intensive Care community closer together, as well as to add to the treasure chest of online Free Open Access Medicine resources that the ICN has already established.

ICN WA are proud to be partnered with ANZICS, and are extremely grateful to our sponsors, Nikkiso, without whose support this project could not have got off the ground.
