Event description
This training will help staff in housing and homelessness organisations to understand how the NDIS works

About this Event

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) represents a large-scale reform of the way disability services are delivered in Australia. It aims to shift disability support from a ‘welfare’ model, where scarce resources are channeled through organisations to provide care and support, to an insurance model where consumers have access to resources to maximise their capacity and quality of life.

As with any such major reform, the transition can be complex and confusing and it can take a while for consumers and support services to work out how to get the best out of a new system.

This training will help staff in housing and homelessness organisations to understand how the NDIS works, and to become more confident in supporting tenants and clients to interact with this system. The training will cover:

• NDIS basics: what is the NDIS, how does it work, who does what?

• Supporting people with disability: accessing the NDIS, problem-solving.

• The NDIS and housing: Home Modification, Specialist Disability Housing, how the NDIS and DHPW work together.

• Opportunities for housing and homelessness organisations.

This will be a practical, interactive session with opportunity to discuss real-life situations.
