Description

The recent Federal election showed increased political issue in housing and housing affordability. The Housing Economist, Professor Geoff Meen from the University of Reading, will demonstrate the international nature of the Housing Affordability problem by comparing the nature of the problem in UK and Australia and proposing some common solutions.

About Professor Meen

Geoff Meen is Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Reading in the UK. He specialises in housing economics, including problems of affordability. He has recently been Specialist Advisor to the House of Lords Economic Affairs Select Committee in its Inquiry into the Economics of UK Housing and also works closely with the English Department of Communities and Local Government. He was awarded an OBE in 2007 for his work on housing. He has published in most of the leading academic journals in the field and recently published a new book on historical approaches to housing economics. He has a long association with Australia, dating back to the early 1980s where he worked as a Research Fellow at Melbourne University and now holds an honorary Adjunct Professorship at RMIT University.
