Hound Hunting Test - Wodonga
Tue. 4 April 2017, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm AEST
Why do I need to sit the test?
Prior to applying for a Game Licence to hunt Sambar Deer with the use of hounds, you need to pass the Hound Hunting Test (HHT). The requirement to pass the HHT ensures that all hound hunters are aware of their legal, ethical and safety requirements when hunting.
To assist hunters to pass the test, GMA has developed a comprehensive booklet entitled "A guide to the use of hounds for hunting Sambar Deer in Victoria". The booklet includes information on: licensing requirements; where and when you can hunt; legal hunting methods; safe firearm handling practices; ethical responsibilities and other information relevant to this form of hunting.
The booklet can be viewed on the GMA website
All applicants are advised to read the booklet prior to sitting the test to ensure they know and understand the legal requirements for hound hunting, requirements for the safe use of firearms and ethical hunting techniques associated with this form of hunting.
There is no refund for applicants who do not attend the test they are booked into. The applicant will need to book into another test and pay a new fee to sit the test on another date.
If you can not attend the test date you have booked into you will need to notify the GMA at least 5 working days prior to the test date in order to move your test date or obtain a refund.
What does the test involve?
The test includes questions on licensing requirements, when you can hunt, legal hunting methods, safe firearm handling practices, ethical responsibilities and other information relevant to the hunting of Sambar Deer with the aid of hounds.
There are a total of 30 multiple choice questions in the test. To pass, you must answer 23 (75%) of the questions correctly. This includes five key questions that must all be answered correctly to gain a pass. The test will take approximately 30-40 minutes to complete.
During the test hunters must remain silent and seated until all applicants have completed the test. Any applicant who speaks or copies someone else’s answers during the test will be required to leave the room and will have to re-apply to sit the test again.
Only applicants are allowed in the testing room while the test is in progress, friends and relatives must wait outside.
What do I need to bring?
Photo identification (like a driver’s or shooter’s licence) must be presented at the test session. If the applicant doesn’t bring photo identification they can not sit the test.
You need to be at least 10 years of age to sit the HHT. Applicant’s under 18 who do not have photo ID need to bring along a copy of a birth certificate or birth extract.
When do I get my results?
Test results are sent out in the mail to applicants within 10 working days from the test date. Applicants who pass the test receive a Certificate of Proficiency.
A score of 75% or greater constitutes a pass, provided that the applicant also correctly answers all five of the key questions.
