Homeschool Science Day - Stage 4 - Years 7/8 - Ages 11-14 - Earth and Space 4 (of 4)

About this Event

Date: Tuesday 8th or Thursday 10th December 2020

Time: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Ages: Stage 4 – Years 7/8 - Ages 11 to 14

Location: 33 Wycombe Road Terrigal

Cost: $60 per student

Student Only Event: Parents to drop off and pickup. There are no provisions for parents or guardians to stay.

Special Needs: If your child has special needs, please contact me via email jacob@makesciencefun.com.au PRIOR to purchasing a ticket and we will discuss what arrangements can be put in place.

Age Requirements: This event is for students aged 11 to 14.

Tickets: Once a ticket has been purchased, Make Science Fun Pty Ltd does not offer any refunds (unless the day is cancelled). If your child cannot make the day due to sickness or other reasons, please feel free to swap, give or sell your ticket through your own communication networks. Make Science Fun Pty Ltd does not keep a waiting list and does not get involved in ticketing once tickets have been purchased.

What To Bring: Display folder with certificate to get signed (If this is your first lesson, one will be provided). Pencil Case with pens, pencils, ruler etc.

All food and drink for themselves for the day (no peanuts, eggs or allergens)

Insurance: Make Science Fun Pty Ltd has full public liability insurance to cover Home School Science days.

Child Safety: Make Science Fun Pty Ltd follows strict child safety protocols. These include all Teachers having WWC checks and common sense rules such as adults not being alone with students at any time.

The intention for the day will be to complete Earth and Space 4 as per the NSW 7-10 Science Syllabus

Earth and Space Outcomes

A student:

› describes the dynamic nature of models, theories and laws in developing scientific understanding of the Earth and solar system SC4-12ES

› explains how advances in scientific understanding of processes that occur within and on the Earth, influence the choices people make about resource use and management SC4-13ES

ES4 Science understanding influences the development of practices in areas of human activity such as industry, agriculture and marine and terrestrial resource management. (ACSHE121, ACSHE136)

Syllabus Activities

a. identify that water is an important resource that cycles through the environment (ACSSU222)

Lots and lots of Tiny Science Chemistry experiments using water.

Tiny Slime Competition – Who can make the best tiny slime?

Study some important properties of water including solubility, boiling point, freezing point, and expansion.

What happens when icebergs melt?

Construct toys using syringes as hydraulic rams and water as the working fluid.

b. explain the water cycle in terms of the physical processes involved

Model the water cycle using tiny science equipment.

c. demonstrate how scientific knowledge of the water cycle has influenced the development of household, industrial and agricultural water management practices Investigate the influence of the water cycle on our everyday lives.

d. research how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' knowledge is being used in decisions to care for country and place, eg terrestrial and aquatic resource management Students can do this activity themselves at home.
