HIT THE ROAD
Taking your practice to new places with an arts residency

Have you ever considered undertaking an artist residency?
Hear from artists who have undertaken Helpmann initiated residencies as well as self-directed opportunities and discover how their experiences have impacted their lives and their practices.

Kate Bohunnis
Kate was the recipient of Helpmann Academy's George Street Studios Residency in the first half of 2019. This unique, local 6-month residency gave Kate access to specialised space, machinery, and a community of established artists with specialised skills, enabling her to develop her technical skills and create a completely new body of work. Kate was also a participant in Helpmann's 2018 Sanskriti Kendra Residency in India.

eDuard Helmbold
eDuard was awarded Helpmann Academy's City Rural Insurance Travel Award at the 2018 Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition. This, coupled with a Helpmann Regular Grant, assisted him to undertake a three-week self-directed residency at the Arts Letters & Numbers institution in upstate New York.

Jemima Lambell
Jemima was a recipient of Helpmann Academy's 2018 Sanskriti Kendra Residency in India. The six-week program, at a retreat on the outskirts of New Delhi offers artists from diverse cultures the opportunity to reflect, interact and create. Through a variety of workshops offered during the residency, Jemima was able to develop new concepts that would be the starting point for a number of new bodies of work.

Clara Solly-Slade
As the recipient of Helpmann Academy's 2018 Neil Curnow Award (presented in partnership with the Independent Arts Foundation), Clara undertook residencies at La Mama Experimental Theatre Company, in Brooklyn New York and Working Classroom, in Albuquerque New Mexico. These experiences assisted Clara to clarify her own plan for a socially engaged arts program and contributed to her being the inaugural recipient of Helpmann Academy's Emerging Director Fellowship with State Theatre Company and State Opera South Australia.

Facilitated by Hugo Michell, Director of Hugo Michell Gallery.
