Historical walk-through tour of Marrickville Town Hall
Sun. 23 October 2016, 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm AEDT
Marrickville Town Hall has seen almost a century of high drama and low intrigue - with monarchists and anarchists, passionate dancers and politicians, debutantes and filmmakers all gracing its presence. From the heyday, when it booked out almost every night of the year, right up to today, hear all about the Town Hall at this public tour.
Mark Matheson, former editor with the Royal Australian Historical Society will lead the walking tour and reveal some of the hidden information about the people behind the scenes. Attendees can see the grand Wurlitzer organ saved from Sydney’s Prince Edward Picture Theatre, the especially-sprung parquetry floor which some dancers claim as ‘the best in Sydney’, and the municipal library conceived in the great days of optimism after the Second World War.
Session 1: 10am-11am
