Event description

Description

Hilde Cannoodt (UK) is an acclaimed tribal fusion and contemporary dancer with an extensive background in Laban Theory, Silvestre Technique, Choreology and Mathematics.

Hilde is bringing her skills and knowledge to Astarte Studio in November with a series of workshops designed for dancers who want to expand their skills, knowledge, technique, and movement repertoire.

WORKSHOPS

Wednesday 7pm-9.00pm - TRIBAL FUSION COMBINATIONS - 2 hours. Cost: $75.00

In this workshop you will learn a number of isolation combos followed by a number of travelling steps across the floor. This is Hilde's signature tribal fusion style: slow lyrical undulations as well as with fast and percussive hip work. We will be working on musicality as well as speed and transitions.
level: all (however, some basic tribal fusion technique is recommended)

Thursday 7.30pm-9.00pm - TIME TO IMPROVISE (1.5hrs). Cost: $60

In this workshop we will learn various improvisation techniques to help us with our dance practice. Utilising principles of Laban's Choreology (Movement Analysis) we will discover how to improvise using space, dynamics and musicality as a theme. We will work on slow as well as fast paced songs to give a wide range of options. Improvisation is a great way to feel 'in the moment' but is a technique that can be learnt just like any other dance technique.

Friday 6.00pm-8.00pm - CONTEMPORARY FUSION STYLE - (2 hours) Cost: $75.00

In this workshop we will learn Hilde's signature contemporary dance technique. Exercises include working through the spine, tendues, plies, floorwork, body isolations which all prepare the body to an end sequence where we get to dance fully.

Saturday 10.00am-3.30pm - UNDER THE LOOKING GLASS Parts 1 & 2 (5hrs. Includes 30 minute break) Level: all Cost: Parts 1 & 2 $150

Part 1: In this workshop we will be looking at tribal fusion belly dance from a Choreological point of view. Choreology is a practice in which we analyse movement from different angles of the structural model. This structural model focuses on 5 different aspects of movement: space, actions, structure of the body, dynamics and relationships. Choreology gives us a better understanding of dance, which gives us the opportunity to adapt and create new ways of moving.

Part 2: Utilising principles of Choreology we will use Tribal Fusion dance vocabulary as a point of departure to transform into new movement material, both to explore choreographic discoveries as well as learn how to recycle old material into something new. This is an excellent tool for those that have felt stuck in their choreographic process and gives great insight into how to break away from your movement habits.

Sunday 10am-12pm - BELLY DANCE GEOMETRY (2hrs) Cost: $75

Hilde’s background in both Choreology and Mathematics play a major part in her approach towards teaching dance. In nature and arts we are surrounded by curves, lines and shapes so embodying these shapes will work spatially towards more dynamic forms and movement patterns in space. In this workshop we will be starting with some theories on movement analysis (based on Rudolph Laban’s work) followed by putting these theories in practise. Hilde’s approach in using Laban’s theories to teach dance really helps students to understand dance and aesthetics on a different level. The aim for this workshop is to create a better understanding on aesthetic principles and to use it as a tool for creating your own work.
Level: all
