Our next High Tea brings an old friend back to the stage – joined this time by violin and double bass as well as backing vocals. Aaron Thomas returns to Australia after a ten-year European musical sojourn to release his debut Australian EP ‘Always a Full Moon’.
At its heart ‘Always a Full Moon’ is an Americana album, laced with Spanish and alt-country musical influences - a homage to his time abroad. It speaks plainly of personal pain, aiming to heal the wounds of the past. Thomas’ inspiration was also due to his fascination with David Lynch’s ‘Twin Peaks’ saga, where he often drew from the mood of the series as a writing tool, imagining himself driving through the mountains past the town sign and into the strangeness.
The album was recorded at Adelaide’s iconic Mix Masters studio and features Elder Conservatorium graduates Kiah Gossner and Kyrie Anderson (Bearded Gypsy Band) on bass and drums, Django Rowe (James Muller, Max Savage and the False Idols) on guitar and Tori Phillips on fiddle. Thomas says, ‘I’ve worked with some incredible musicians all over the world, but from the first rehearsal these guys blew my mind. Their skills in live performance are ridiculous.’

Aaron Thomas has released 3 studio albums (Follow the Elephants, Made of Wood and The Blues and Greens) as well as an EP and film soundtrack in Europe. His second album was recorded in Iceland with renowned producer Valgeir Sigurddson (Bjork, Bonnie Prince Billy, Sam Amidon). And he’s played at international music festivals including SXSW (Austin), CMJ (New York), Popkomm (Berlin) and London’s Concrete and Glass.

"Tempestuous, lush arrangements that evoke the classic songwriting and deeply romantic sentiment of Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt, Chris Isaak or Ryan Adams, with a distinctly Spanish flavour. Intelligent, impassioned lyrics and beautiful production. A dusty tragic-romantic vibe that will appeal to fans of Calexico, Cohen, Van Zandt and even Isaak. These six songs have enough depth and emotional range to stand as an album, not just an EP.  Thomas is an increasingly confident and mature songwriter and these six songs are testament to that."
Ben Salter

"There aren’t a lot of people on this planet that have a vocal range and style that spans Elvis Presley’s deep baritone right up to Jeff Buckley’s birdlike soprano. Aaron Thomas is one of those. Couple that with top shelf songwriting and an excellent backing band and you have one of Australia’s most underrated singer songwriters.”
Bernard Fanning
