Event description

Description

This walk will provide an understanding of the rich heritage values of the area around West Basin (the Lake area between Commonwealth Bridge and the National Museum of Australia), and the current plans for its development (City to Lake and Acton Peninsula Draft Structure Plan). After a heritage walk there will be a display showing plans for the area and their heritage impacts. There will be an opportunity to discuss these plans with representatives from National Trust (ACT), Friends of the Grasslands and Lake Burley Griffin Guardians, and enjoy a sausage sizzle.

This National Trust Monthly Heritage Walk (open to all), will be run in cooperation with Lake Burley Griffin Guardians and Friends of the Grasslands.

Meet: Carpark opposite Old Canberra House, Lennox Crossing, Acton

Length and terrain: A 3km walk, some short hills, urban paths with some dirt paths and grassed areas. You should be able to walk at least 3km in an hour to keep up with the group and enjoy this walk.

Bad weather: The walk leader will be at the meeting point where a decision will be made as to whether to proceed or postpone.

Leader: Trevor Lipscombe
