Event description
The unique heritage-listed Mission to Seafarers building is newly renovated and open daily to the public.

About this Event

The Mission to Seafarers has operated from its heritage-listed building at Flinders Street since 1917. Australia relies on shipping and seafarers to connect to the world and to bring goods to our homes for the economy to thrive, and for the health of our island nation. The Mission to Seafarers provides welfare services to support the tireless work, isolation and hardships faced by those seafarers

The architecturally significant building is iconic to the City of Melbourne and is considered a fine urban example of a merging of the ‘Arts and Crafts’ and ‘Spanish Mission Revival’ architectural styles in Melbourne.

An hour long tour is led by our experienced and knowledgable volunteers.  Step inside and hear the remarkable stories of the Mission to Seafarers, discover the original use of the Norla Dome and visit the Chapel. Take a look at the maritime artefacts in the Heritage Centre and explore the latest exhibition 'Encountering People, Places and Things: A Historical and Contemporary Photographic Narrative'. Relax in the hidden garden or Spanish-style courtyard with a coffee or glass of wine.

Ticket sales and all proceeds go directly towards the Mission to Seafarers.

NOTE: tours are subject to COVID restrictions in Melbourne.
