Event description

Description

Much of the Australian built heritage is cared for by private owners. Many owners view themselves as custodians of the material fabric of the building and play a large part in maintaining traditional trade skills in the ongoing conservation of these historic properties. In addition, they are often the unacknowledged keepers of many of the historical stories, oral histories and local memories of the site.

Join Dr Bernadette Flynn, General Manager of the Historic Houses Association to hear about the cultural heritage of the HHA Property Network and the growing network of owners who share a significant responsibility for passing on the legacy of historic houses and landscapes of significance. The presentation reflects on strategies for activating engagement with heritage within the context of shared communities of interest and an embodied sense of place and identity. Case studies will illustrate how owners are meeting the challenges and opportunities of this heritage legacy.
