Event description
Central Coast Council will be holding free workshops for parents and supervisors of learner drivers in November.

About this Event

The free two-hour workshops, Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers, are organised in conjunction with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and offer parents and supervisors hands-on, practical advice on how to provide the most effective driving practice for learner drivers.

Younger drivers face many challenges when learning the complex task of driving a vehicle. With their inexperience, they also face a higher risk of danger. Despite making up approximately 15 percent of all licence holders, younger drivers represent almost a quarter of annual road fatalities.

The Graduated Licensing Scheme helps new drivers gain experience and become safer drivers by spreading the learning process over four years. It requires learner drivers to have at least 120 hours of supervised practice in a wide variety of situations, including a minimum of 20 hour’s night time driving.

The ‘Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers’ workshops are designed for parents and supervisors of young learner drivers. The two-hour program provides practical advice to help parents in supervising learner drivers and covers topics such as the new licence conditions for learner and P plate drivers, how to use the Learner Driver Logbook, the benefits of on-road driving sessions, tips on supervising a learner driver, and the importance of giving the learner constructive feedback.

The Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers workshops will be held at Erina Library on 17 and 19 November commencing at 6.00pm.
