Learn about the startling relationship between hearing loss and dementia risk.
About this event
The bad news: There is a 200-500% increase in your odds of developing Dementia if you have untreated hearing loss.
The good news: Treating hearing loss doesn’t just dramatically reduce your odds, it also improves your quality of life!
It often surprises people to learn that a major contributing factor to the onset of Dementia is hearing loss. Even mild hearing loss experienced over 10 to 20 years can significantly increase the risk of Dementia. BUT! By taking simple steps to treat your hearing loss, the risk is dramatically diminished.
Who should attend this presentation?
If you are concerned about your hearing, or the hearing of someone you care about, you will undoubtedly benefit from this presentation.
Key Learning Outcomes/Takeaways
1. Discover how the cognitive overload you’re suffering from may be caused by untreated hearing loss.
2. Find out why untreated hearing loss is the number 1 modifiable (meaning something can be done about it) risk factor for Dementia.
3. Understand the critical importance of preserving the neural pathways between the ears and the brain, for the prevention of Dementia.
4. Learn how to prevent or overcome social isolation and maintain or restore your quality of life.
5. Discover the mechanics of hearing, how the body receives and processes sounds and what causes hearing loss. (It may not be what you think!)
6. Find out what you can do to keep your brain engaged and active and how soon you need to start.
7. Learn why the term “use it or lose it” applies to the connection between hearing and the brain.
8. Find out why some people can never get their hearing back once it deteriorates and how you can prevent it from happening to you.
Note: This presentation is purely educational. There is no sales pitch.
Why is it so important to take action early? Did you know that the sooner you correct mild hearing loss, the greater the chance of improving it or at least halting it from worsening? Or that if you don’t correct it, you could be a prime candidate for Dementia?
Rates of Dementia are estimated to TRIPLE in the next 30 years due to Australia’s ageing population. In Dementia patients, the physical body is estimated to outlive the individual’s mental capabilities by at least ten years.
While there is currently no cure for this devastating disease, it IS possible to reduce your risk.
Hearing loss is the #1 modifiable risk factor for Dementia. A word from our presenter, Andrew Campbell:
"The world-renowned Lancet Medical Journal recently published research revealing that the best way to prevent Dementia is by treating hearing loss. This is because of the link between Dementia and under-stimulation of the hearing centres in the brain. This is commonly known as ‘auditory deprivation.’ Over the years, I’ve made it a point to learn as much as I can on the subject and pass on the relevant points to the people I see in my practices, ultimately improving patient outcomes. I recently travelled to Boston for lessons with Harvard Medical School-trained Neuroscientist, Audiologist and best-selling author Dr Keith Darrow. My free ‘Brain Health and Hearing’ seminars are offered to educate the public on the risks of Dementia in hearing-compromised individuals. I’ve given these takes to various community groups and the feedback has been extremely positive. We’d love to see you there! You will also receive a free copy of my book, called Hearing & Brain Health."
