Event description

Description

Hear For You is a place like no other – it’s a place where young deaf or hard of hearing teenagers can hang out amongst other peers, have lots of fun and make lots of friends. Our mentors understand and remember well the challenges that a young deaf or hard of hearing teenager can experience.

FAQs

FOR Secondary School deaf/hard of hearing students (age 12-18 years) only

What is the mentor to participant ratio?

The maximum ratio is 1 mentor to 4 participants.

Why the registration fee?

This is the fee to secure your teenager's enrolment ($20)

The full cost of the Program can be paid in the following ways:

  • Through your NDIS plan/funding if you are registered; or

  • If you are unable to pay the balance due to financial hardship, you can apply to be part of our Community Fundraising Program where we will work to fundraise this through your local community clubs e.g. RSLs, Rotary, Lions, Apex, etc

Can I use my current NDIS funding to cover Hear For You?

Yes this is possible. During registration for the NDIS ticket, please fill out the required information so we know if you are:

  1. NDIA Managed i.e. they pay all providers on your behalf

  2. Self-Managed i.e. the NDIA will give you the funds so you can pay your providers directly

  3. Plan-Managed i.e. the NDIA will give you funding in order to pay for a Plan Manager who will pay your providers on your behalf

You will need to give us your NDIS number and the number of hours or funding amount that you have secured with your NDIA planner.

Which Support Clusters do I use or apply for to cover Hear For You events?

There are two Support Clusters to use:

Support Cluster No.9 "Increased Social and Community Participation"

  • Support Item: Life transition planning including mentoring, peer support and individual skill development.
  • Support Item Ref No. 09_006_0106_6_3
  • Description: Establishing volunteer assistance within the participant’s home or community to develop skills. For instance, assistance in attending appointments, shopping, bill paying, taking part in social activities and maintaining contact with others.

If Support Cluster No.9 is unavailable, Support Cluster No.15 can be used:

Support Cluster No. 15 "Improved daily living skills"

  • Support Item: Assistance with decision making, daily planning, budgeting
  • Support Item Ref No. 15_035_0106_1_3
  • Description: Provision of time limited support to assist a person to develop and maintain daily budget, including assisting in planning purchases.

How many NDIS hours are actually needed for this event?

4 hours under Support Cluster No. 9 or 15

I am currently planning to register on the NDIS, what information do I need to present to the NDIA planner?

Please go to http://hearforyou.com.au/program/ndis/ for all the required information

What if I am not on the NDIS/I am not eligible for the NDIS and I would to love to attend, what do I do?

Our Western Sydney Program is being funded by an NDIS grant so we have been able to reduce the cost to a registration fee of $20, please let us know if you have any issues with this and we will do our best to ensure that finances are not a reason your teenager cannot attend.

Please contact david.brady@hearforyou.com.au or call 02 8937 4150 to discuss these options further after purchasing the Non-NDIS registration ticket.
