Event description

Introducing the Rock My World Workshop for MELBOURNE!

NDIS Hours for this event - 6 hours

Sunday 27th of May

Our exclusive Filming Workshop which has been a hit in NSW & QLD will be the first in Melbourne, Victoria.
Our teens will learn how to make a short film, using a simple device such as their mobile phone or Ipad!
We will learn all there is to know about the short film industry, learning how to storyboard, film and edit.
Maybe this will inspire our teens to enter Short Film competions such as 48 Hour Film Festival which our very own Victorian Co-ordinator - Emilie Biggar succesfully entered last year, snatching a nomination for Best Make-up for her film "HER".

At the end of the #1 Workshop in May, we will ask the teens to create their very own 5 minute short story to showcase upon our return TBD. The theme/genre will be decided by Australian Hearing.

Their short film will be awarded during the #2 Workshop, based on
- Best Actor
- Best Actress
- Best Costume
- Best Makeup
- Best Film!
- Audience Choice Award

These awards will be decided by Australian Hearing, also the 2 selected winners across NSW, QLD or VIC will have their film showcased throughout the 150 Australian Hearing centres across the country and their social media pages!

We're aiming to host Workshop from 9am - 3pm

If you have any other curious Questions, feel free to email me - emilie.biggar@hearforyou.com.au

  • BONUS: Lunch will be provided with Tea and Coffee too for Mum and Dad if they want to stay

Note: If you are on the NDIS, you may be able to use your funding to pay for the program costs.

Do I have to pay an entry fee on top of the Registration fee?

This is a one day Session, so $20 for the days. No extra costs.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

This is for current deaf/hard of hearing High School students (Year 7 to Year 12)
Age 12-18 years.

What is the mentor to participant ratio?

Depending on the number of participants we can have anywhere between 3 - 5 Mentors.

Can I use my current NDIS funding to cover Hear For You?

Yes this is possible. After purchasing the NDIS Participant Registration fee ticket, please contact David Brady on david.brady@hearforyou.com.au to inform him whether you are:

  1. NDIA Agency managed i.e. they pay all invoices on your behalf

  2. Self-funded i.e. the NDIA have given you a lump sum to use as per your agreed NDIS plan

You will need to give us your NDIS number and the number of hours or funding amount that you have secured with your NDIA planner.

Which Support Clusters do I use or apply for to cover Hear For You events?

There are two Support Clusters to use:

Support Cluster No.9 "Increased Social and Community Participation"

  • Support Item: Life transition planning including mentoring, peer support and individual skill development.
  • Support Item Ref No. 09_006_0106_6_3
  • Description: Establishing volunteer assistance within the participant’s home or community to develop skills. For instance, assistance in attending appointments, shopping, bill paying, taking part in social activities and maintaining contact with others.

If Support Cluster No.9 is unavailable, Support Cluster No.15 can be used:

Support Cluster No. 15 "Improved daily living skills"

  • Support Item: Assistance with decision making, daily planning, budgeting

How many NDIS hours are actually needed for this event?

  • RMW Film Making Workshops - 6 NDIS Hours for this event

What if I am not on the NDIS/I am not eligible for the NDIS and I would to love to attend, what do I do?

1. You only need to pay $20 to enrol as this year the program is supported by the Australian Hearing Film Festival support funding.

We are concious of the fact many deaf and hard of hearing teenagers are yet to be accepted to their NDIS and need more time. Hence we are pleased to have this funded to make sure as many teenagers don't miss out due to waiting.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There will be parking available at the venue

I live outside of Melbourne but I would really like to attend these workshop. Can I do so?

Yes, of course! Any deaf/hard of hearing teenager is most welcome to enrol in the workshops :)

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please contact Emilie at emilie.biggar@hearforyou.com.au

Can I update my registration information?

Yes, simply email emilie.biggar@hearforyou.com.au

Please note that event details may be changed closer to the date and you will be notified of any and all changes as a ticket holder.
