Event description

Description

The Brisbane Film Making Workshops will be making a return in 2019!

We have created two weekend workshops - this is the first one over the weekend of:

Saturday 27 April to Sunday 28 April 2019

The April 2019 workshop we will learn all there is to know about the short film industry, how to storyboard and make a short film using a simple device such as mobile phone or iPad.

At the end of the April weekend, we will ask the teens to create their very own 5 minute short story in their home environment for our return in June.

At the 22-23 June 2019 workshop, we get to edit the whole thing!

Film competition entries close end of July 2019 hence these workshops before entries close.

The theme/genre will be announced in February 2019 so keep your eye open then!

Awards will be decided by Australian Hearing, also selected winners across NSW, QLD or VIC will have their film showcased throughout the 150 Australian Hearing centres across the country and their social media pages!

FAQs

Do I have to pay an entry fee on top of the Registration fee?

This is a two day Session, and there are two categories:

- NDIS, you can use your NDIS of which you need to allocate 10-12 hours towards your place at the workshop.

- If not on the NDIS, it will be $50 for the April workshop (we will provide further details for the June one). No extra costs.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

This is for current deaf/hard of hearing High School students (Year 7 to Year 12)
Age 12-18 years.

What is the mentor to participant ratio?

Depending on the number of participants we can have anywhere between 3 - 5 Mentors.

Can I use my current NDIS funding to cover Hear For You?

Yes this is possible. After registering for the NDIS ticket, please contact David Brady on david.brady@hearforyou.com.au to inform him whether you are:

1. NDIA Agency managed i.e. they pay all invoices on your behalf

2. Self-funded i.e. the NDIA have given you a lump sum to use as per your agreed NDIS plan

You will need to give us your NDIS number and the number of hours or funding amount that you have secured with your NDIA planner.

NDIS Hours - 10-12 hours for this event

Which Support Clusters do I use or apply for to cover Hear For You events?

There are two Support Clusters to use:

Support Cluster No.9 "Increased Social and Community Participation"

  • Support Item: Life transition planning including mentoring, peer support and individual skill development.
  • Support Item Ref No. 09_006_0106_6_3
  • Description: Establishing volunteer assistance within the participant’s home or community to develop skills. For instance, assistance in attending appointments, shopping, bill paying, taking part in social activities and maintaining contact with others.

If Support Cluster No.9 is unavailable, Support Cluster No.15 can be used:

Support Cluster No. 15 "Improved daily living skills"

  • Support Item: Assistance with decision making, daily planning, budgeting
  • Support Item Ref No. 15_035_0106_1_3
  • Description: Provision of time limited support to assist a person to develop and maintain daily budget, including assisting in planning purchases.

Not on NDIS OR still waiting?

If you are for any reason not on the NDIS (yet), no worries. You only need to pay $50 to enrol.

We are conscious of the fact many deaf and hard of hearing teenagers are yet to be accepted to their NDIS and need more time. Hence we are pleased to have this funded to make sure as many teenagers don't miss out due to waiting.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking at the university is FREE on weekends.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
