It will be a fun day of Drama activities, building confidence and learning to express ourselves in new and creative ways!

About this event

NOTE: This workshop will not be going ahead on 12th July as originally planned due to not having minimum numbers in time to meet facilitator deadlines.

With a minimum of 5 attendees needed for this workshop to go ahead, once this number has been reached, we can schedule a new date with the instructors.

AGENDA:

The drama workshop will be run as below:

  • 2 hour workshop by Darcy-Lee Tindale, followed by
  • 30 minute talk and Q&A about the entertainment industry by Jon-Claire Lee
  • 30 minute debriefing with Hear For You mentors

The workshop itself will include theatre sports, improvisations and a short scene presentation at the end.

Here is some information about the well-credentialed teachers that will be running the workshop:

Darcy-Lee Tindale

Darcy-Lee Tindale is the Speech & Drama Coordinator at Abbotsleigh School for Girls in Wahroonga NSW, actor, author, theatre sports player, director and has appeared in television commercials, film, and on stage.

Darcy has directed plays at Newtown Theatre, St Martin’s Theatre in Victoria, Parramatta Riverside Theatre, Belvoir Theatre, and the Seymour Centre. Her love of quick wit plays a large part in her passion for Theatresports. She has been a long-time performer with IMPROAustralia, having performed in shows across NSW, including Mixed Shaken and Stirred at the Belvoir Theatre alongside Daniel Cordeaux from televisions Thank God You're Here, and regular a performer at the Roxbury, Harold Park, Clarence, and Bondi Pavilion Theatre.

Darcy has been a judge and host for The Schools Theatresports Challenge. Darcy has been trained in both the Meisner and Chubbuck Technique, trained with NIDA, The Actors Pulse, STC, AFTRS and has an ATCL Performers and FTCL Directors Trinity Guildhall Diploma and a BA in Creative Writing and Literature.

Jon-Claire Lee

Jon-Claire is the director of Sydney Talent Company, which has represented actors in the Australian entertainment industry for the last 38 years - for film, TV, stage, commercials, print, etc.

Being a graduate of New York University (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting, and Masters of Fine Arts in Film and TV Directing), he came to Sydney in 1991 and has coached numerous STC actors who have gone on to work successfully in the industry, including Dieter Brummer, Kate Garven and Beau Brady (Home and Away); Luke Jacobz (Host for The X Factor); Delta Goodrum (Neighbours) and many others.

Jon-Claire himself has featured in international films (Mao’s Last Dancer, Muriel’s Wedding, Nim’s Island, The Exorcist III, Raise the Titanic, etc.) and TV dramas (Home and Away, GP, Singapore Sling, Heartbreak High, Joh’s Jury, All Saints, Wildside, Young Lions, Sea Patrol, Mako: Island of Secrets, etc.) He has produced and directed two recent feature films: Innocent Killer (2017) and Greed (2019), which have gone on to win many festival awards in Australia, the USA, France and other countries around the world.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

If you're in high school and deaf/hearing impaired or hard of hearing, then this is for you! 

Can I use my current NDIS funding to cover Hear For You?

Yes this is possible. During registration for the NDIS ticket, please fill out the required information so we know if you are:

  • NDIA Managed i.e. they pay all providers on your behalf
  • Self-Managed i.e. the NDIA will give you the funds so you can pay your providers directly
  • Third Provider-Managed i.e. a Plan Manager who will pay your providers on your behalf

You will need to give us your NDIS number and the number of hours or funding amount that you have secured with your NDIA planner.

Which Support Purpose will funding need to be allocated in for use with Hear For You events?

Funding needs to be allocated under the Support Purpose of 'Capacity Building'.

Which Support Categories do I use or apply for to cover Hear For You events?

There are two Support Categories for use with the Capacity Building Support Purpose:

Support Category No.9 "Increased Social and Community Participation"

  • Support Item: Life transition planning including mentoring, peer support and individual skill development.
  • Support Item Ref No. 09_006_0106_6_3
  • Description: Establishing volunteer assistance within the participant’s home or community to develop skills. For instance, assistance in attending appointments, shopping, bill paying, taking part in social activities and maintaining contact with others.

If Support Category No.9 is unavailable, Support Category No.15 can be used:

Support Item No. 15 "Improved daily living skills"

  • Support Item: Assistance with decision making, daily planning, budgeting
  • Support Item Ref No. 15_035_0106_1_3
  • Description: Provision of time limited support to assist a person to develop and maintain daily budget, including assisting in planning purchases.

I am currently planning to register on the NDIS, what information do I need to present to the NDIA planner?

What if I am not on the NDIS/I am not eligible for the NDIS and I would to love to attend, what do I do?

Please email info@hearforyou.com.au or call 1800 432 749 (1800 HEAR 4Y) to inform us that you have selected the Non-NDIS registration ticket and we will be in touch to discuss.

 

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

There is free parking down underneath the Hub on Level B2 and you just simply take the lift up to Level 1

OR

You can take the train to Macquarie University station and walk up University Avenue to the Hub

OR

 You can take a bus to Macquarie Centre (depending where you live) and walk from there to the Hub

What can/can't I bring to the event?

You don't have to bring anything. Or maybe just a smile?
