Event description

The 2018 Life Goals and Skills Metro returns to Brisbane, so lock in these four dates to make the most of our award winning programs:

  • Session 1 - Saturday 17 February 2018

  • Session 2 - Saturday 10 March 2018

  • Session 3 - Saturday 24 March 2018

  • Session 4 - Saturday 21 April 2018

Why Attend?

Hear For You is a place like no other – it’s a place where young deaf or hard of hearing teenagers can hang out amongst other peers, have lots of fun and make lots of friends. Our mentors understand and remember well the challenges that a young deaf or hard of hearing teenager can experience.

Our workshop sessions bring together groups of teenagers to realise that deafness is more of a “difference” than a disadvantage. We show you that they are not alone, to inspire them, and to share hints and tips on how to deal with all the obstacles that come with deafness.

We want to give you the opportunity to share your experiences with someone in the same boat, particularly when it feels like no one else understands.

We are here to help you get the best out of being deaf, to realise their dreams and live life to the full and that’s why we’re Hear For You!

We have quite a number of fun activities planned for the four sessions including a comical theatre session by a past mentee!

Limited spaces available. Please register as soon as you can.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can my teenager attend just one session and I pay $25?

No, this program is designed to take place over 4 sessions so the mentor-participant relationship has a chance to grow organically over time. In addition, the themes of each session builds an important bridge to the next one so we are able to cover a wide range of topics.

What is the mentor to participant ratio?

Every teenager gets grouped into their year group (7&8, 9&10, 11&12) and each year group will have 2 mentors (1 male and 1 female). The maximum ratio is 1 mentor to 4 participants.

The ticket says it is for 'One deaf/hard of hearing teenager', does this mean I have to purchase separate tickets for myself (parent) and siblings?

No, if you and your other children wish to accompany your deaf/hard of hearing teenager to the Parent Seminar, you are welcome to do so at no extra cost.

Why the registration fee?

This is the fee to secure your teenager's enrolment ($100).

The full cost of the Program is $1600 - the remaining balance of $1500 can be paid in the following ways:

  • Upfront payment (discounted to $1400); or

  • Through your NDIS plan/funding if you are registered; or

  • If you are unable to pay the balance due to financial hardship, you can apply to be part of our Community Fundraising Program where we will work with you to fundraise this through your local community clubs e.g. RSLs, Rotary, Lions, Apex, etc.

Can I use my current NDIS funding to cover Hear For You?

Yes this is possible. After purchasing the NDIS Participant Registration ticket, please contact David Brady on david.brady@hearforyou.com.au to inform him whether you are:

  • NDIA Agency managed i.e. they pay all your invoices on your behalf

  • Self-funded i.e. the NDIA have given you a lump sum to use as per your agreed NDIS plan

You will need to give us your NDIS number and the number of hours or funding amount that you have secured with your NDIA planner.

Please note that this Program requires 30 NDIS hours to cover your teen's attendance.

I am currently planning to register on the NDIS, what information do I need to present to the NDIA planner?

Please go to http://www.hearforyou.com.au/program/ndis for all the required information.

What if I am not on the NDIS/I am not eligible for the NDIS and I would love to attend, what do I do?

1. You can choose to pay the full amount personally,

2. If you have financial hardship in meeting the program costs, you can apply to enter our Community Fundraising Program, where Hear For You will work with you and your family to fundraise towards the $1,500 total. This program involves providing support to apply for small grants that can be secured from local clubs, community organisations and foundations such as RSLs, Lions, Rotary, etc. Please contact david.brady@hearforyou.com.au or call 02 8937 4150 to discuss these options further after purchasing the Non-NDIS registration ticket.
