Do you work with parents who have learning difficulties?
Who should attend?
Healthy & Safe is suitable for practitioners who work with parents in their homes and have young children aged 0-6 years. Practitioners who work in the disability, health, child protection, welfare or family support sector will find this program invaluable.
What you will learn
Healthy & Safe introduces skills to practitioners on how to help parents manage home dangers, accidents and childhood illness.
The one-day Healthy & Safe training session includes lesson plans, modules and parent workbooks covering nineteen topics on health and home safety.
Training benefits include:
- Active participation
- Core skills introduced and practised during sessions
- Evidence-based strategies to help you meet your client’s goals
- Sessions delivered by experienced trainers from the Parenting Research Centre
- All program materials provided can be used in your work with parents
The facilitator helps the parent decide whether they will systematically work through all the lessons or focus on lessons that are most meaningful and relevant to the parent’s circumstances.
Lessons include recognising when your child is sick, calling the doctor, using medicines safely, identifying dangerous objects in and around the home, and developing a home safety plan.
