Day 1 Thursday 1 June - Forewarned is forearmed: Planning for energy price hikes and market instability
9:30 am - 4:00 pm

Victoria’s public health sector has enjoyed low energy costs for the past three years due to favourable energy contracts negotiated by Health Purchasing Victoria. Due to a number of factors, large increases will occur once these contracts expire. Add to the mix electricity and gas supply issues due to a failure of Federal Government energy policy, Hazelwood power station closure and the artificial manipulation of gas supply by gas exporters leading to Victoria facing a volatile energy future.

We encourage you to bring finance and senior management representatives to hear discussion and presentations culminating in a panel discussion on rising energy prices, alternative energy technologies, energy efficiency, energy volatility and the risk to health services.

Agenda for the day:

Day 2 Friday 2 June - Local Action: environmental change in the healthcare environment
9:30 am - 4:00 pm

Healthcare generates significant environmental impacts, both upstream and downstream from service delivery, in its pursuit of best patient care. Healthcare consumes our natural resources, contributes to pollution and climate change, and produces a disturbing amount of waste. How can healthcare professionals minimise these impacts on the environment and lead in a process of change? Day 2 will provide an opportunity for people from diverse healthcare backgrounds to network, learn practical skills, gain insights into healthcare sustainability opportunities and challenges, and share their achievements.

It will include presentations from the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals network, new environmental research from the healthcare environment, demonstrations of practical approaches to implementing environmental initiatives through case study presentations, and practical workshops. The day will finish with a panel discussion on the challenges of packaging and single use items with regards to waste minimisation.
