Event description
Loneliness and social isolation are a public health crisis, and design solutions exist to help solve this merging phenomena.

About this Event

Our cities will have 3.2 million women aged 80 years and older, living alone by 2030. Loneliness and social isolation are a public health crisis, and design solutions exist to help solve this merging phenomena.

This event will explore designing less lonely cities, establishing participation cultures and opportunities for social collision through architecture, social impact start-ups in partnership with the health sector.

The social prescribing movement, where clinicians prescribe social activities to patients is gathering base in Australia. This innovative trend will be explored with experts in the area, as well as experts in social movements and social impact.

The session will raise awareness of the social isolation and loneliness experienced by older residents in Melbourne, and highlight the need for society to fight ageism. Attendees will explore solutions to creating community networks that help elders in our society thrive and flourish; to create less lonely cities.
