About this Event

Specialised intellectual disability health teams and PHN collaborating through clinical care and capacity building.

The Specialist Intellectual Disability Health teams of SLHD and SESLHD, in partnership with Central and Eastern Sydney PHN have developed a series of four accredited workshops. These workshops aim to increase awareness of how to better care for people with intellectual disability in general and allied health practice.

The topics covered will include setting the scene, adolescence and early adulthood, specific conditions across the lifespan, managing complex health issues, and tips and tools for practice.

Session one in a series of four sessions that will help you provide better care for PWID in your practice.

Learning outcomes:

  • Identify current health inequities and barriers to health care.
  • Summarise the contemporary evidence about the health of people with intellectual disability
  • Determine the needs of a client/family with intellectual disability within your practice.
  • Determine solutions and modify your practice
  • Implement accessibility strategies for your practice/service
  • Describe the new specialised intellectual disability health teams in your area

Target Audience: GPs, PNs, PMs, practice staff, AHPs, pharmacists, community organisations
