Event description

An interactive workshop for PHNs

Black Dog Institute and the National LGBTI Health Alliance are facilitating this satellite event as part of the Health in Difference conference. This is an interactive workshop open to all Primary Health Networks (PHN) across Australia that are undertaking suicide prevention activities and that wish to deeply explore how their efforts can be more inclusive of and responsive to the needs of LGBTQI people in their communities.

The workshop will introduce participants to:

  • Black Dog Institute’s LifeSpan Framework, and the importance of evidence and a systems approach

  • The National LGBTI Health Alliance’s National LGBTI Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Strategy

  • Practical strategies for adapting their suicide prevention efforts to align with the above

  • Implementation experiences with LGBTQI communities in two nationally-funded trial sites

  • Engagement, co-design and governance strategies to maximise the influence of LGBTQI lived experience in suicide prevention efforts

The day will be designed as an interactive workshop to encourage participants to apply their professional and community expertise through the lens of this priority population to draw together perspectives relating to:

  • Evidence-based interventions

  • Inclusive practice

  • Effective local implementation

Participants will bring their understanding of their local environments and their personal and professional histories.

Suggested participants

  • PHN representatives who have implementation responsibility for nationally-funded suicide prevention activities (eg Trial Site Coordinators)

  • PHN representatives from other sites that are not currently funded to deliver a suicide prevention trial but which have an interest in improving their suicide prevention effort for LGBTQI people

  • Service delivery and advocacy groups that are funded by PHNs to focus on mental health and suicide prevention for LGBTQI population
