The Coroners Court of Victoria hosts quarterly information sessions for health and medical professionals to educate these practitioners about the coronial investigation process and their obligations under the Coroners Act 2008 (Vic).

Topics and Presenters

The topics discussed include:

  • Reporting a death to the coroner
  • The forensic medical and scientific investigation
  • The specialist health and medical investigation process
  • Inquest and recommendations.

Attendees will hear presentations from a forensic pathologist, a coroner, Victoria Police and Coroners Prevention Unit case investigators specialising in health and medical related deaths. Please note this session does not cover psychiatry or mental health.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Public Transport

Train - the nearest train station is Flinders Street Station. Allow 10 minutes to walk from the station to our 65 Kavanagh Street entrance.

Tram - the closest tram stop is directly outside the Melbourne Recital Centre (Stop 17) on the Tram no. 1 line (to South Melbourne). The 65 Kavanagh Street entrance is only a short walk from this stop.

Alternatively, take any tram travelling along St Kilda Road (Tram no. 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67, 72) to the Arts Centre Precinct stop (Stop 14). Allow 10 minutes to walk down Southbank Boulevard to Kavanagh Street.

The Tram no. 58 is also a short 5-10 minute walk from the Crown Casino East/Queensbridge tram stop (Stop 115) to 65 Kavanagh Street.

Bus - the nearest bus stop is the Crown Casino East/Queensbridge tram stop (Stop 115), servicing bus routes 109, 234, 236, and 605. Allow 5-10 minutes to walk from Crown Casino to 65 Kavanagh Street.

Car Parking

There is limited metered street parking in Kavanagh Street and nearby Moore Street. Casual public car parking is also available at:

  • The corner of Kavanagh Street and Power Street (entry via Kavanagh Street)
  • Wilson Parking - Freshwater Place, Southbank (entry via Southbank Boulevard)
  • Wilson Parking - 2 Riverside Quay, Southbank (entry via Southgate Avenue)
  • The Arts Centre in Sturt Street, Southbank.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

No. The registration/ticket is non-transferrable.

Can I update my registration information?

Yes. You may logon to the Eventbrite online booking system to update your registration information.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

If you can access the square QR code from your ticket on your phone, either via the Eventbrite App or by email, you do not need to bring a printed ticket.

What is the refund policy?

A full refund will only be permitted if the cancellation and request for refund is made through the Eventbrite online booking system within 7 days prior to the event. No other cancellation method will be obtained.

Can my work colleague use my ticket if I am unable to attend?

Yes. However, you must logon to Eventbrite and update the name on the ticket to the new attendees details, and then notify the event organisers by emailing informationsession@coronerscourt.vic.gov.au.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

No. The name on the registration/ticket MUST match the attendee. Please logon to Eventbrite to edit the ticket buyer information.

If I have a prohibited item will it be confiscated by security?

Yes. All prohibited items will be confiscated by security officers upon entering he building and may not be returned.

Organised by

The Coroners Court of Victoria is a specialist inquisitorial court. The Coroners Act 2008 provides powers to coroners to investigate certain types of deaths and fires, and to contribute to the reduction of the number of preventable deaths and fires through investigation findings. The purpose of these investigations is to consider ways that similar deaths and fires may be prevented in the future, and coronial findings may contain comments and recommendations to serve this purpose.
