About this Event

The FMH Research Education – Westmead team will be running a HDR Supervisor Course for prospective Higher Degree by Research supervisors at Westmead. The course has been approved by the Academic Director of Graduate Studies as an alternative to the University's online Foundations of Research Supervisor (FoRS) course.

The course will cover: preparing for supervision; responsibilities at commencement and throughout candidature; expectations; meeting your student; managing the process; progress plan; strategies; providing writing guidance; examination and completion. The course will be presented by experienced and expert supervisors on-site at Westmead. The format is flipped classroom, discussion, and case studies. Reading lists and a list of resources will be sent to attendees before the sessions.

To gain registration as a HDR supervisor with the University, prospective supervisors must attend all 3 sessions (first 2 sessions plus the University's face-to-face FoRS session). If prospective supervisors have already completed the FoRS online course, and need to attend the University’s face-to-face session, they are welcome to attend the session at Westmead on 19 June.

Session 1: Friday 5 June 2020, 1.00pm – 3.00pm, Tutorial Room 3, Education Centre, CHW

Session 2: Friday 12 June 2020, 1.00pm – 3.00pm, Tutorial Room 3, Education Centre, CHW

Session 3: Compulsory face-to-face FoRS component: Friday 19 June 2020, 1.00pm - 3.00pm, Doreen Dew Lecture Theatre, Education Centre, CHW

(presented by Prof Ross Coleman, Academic Director, Graduate Research, DVC (Education) Portfolio)
