Event description
Hard Yards is an interactive workshop with the opportunity to explore new thinking practices in the field of trauma & critical reflection.

About this Event

An estimated ONE in 35 children suffers the impact of abuse and neglect, making it a problem that affects most Australian schools. We need to rethink current practices and support schools to become more ‘trauma-informed’. But what exactly does this mean, and how do we make it happen? This conference will:

  • Take an ‘inquiry-based approach’ where participants will be immersed in current thinking and innovative practices based on Australian research
  • Present a live theatre performance to introduce the student perspective, and stimulate thinking around current practices “one boy’s trauma – biting the hand”
  • Include panel discussions about innovative ideas currently being trialled in Victorian schools
  • Provide participants with a simulated reflective circle experience

Speakers include:

  • Associate Professor Fiona Gardner, Head of Social Work and Social Policy at La Trobe University
  • Dr Anne Southall, Course Coordinator of Master of Inclusion and Diversity and lecturer in Education and Trauma at La Trobe University
