Event description

Description

Aquaponics recirculates water from a fish tank through a vegetable grow bed. Nutrients from the fish waste feed the plants, and the plants filter the water to keep the fish healthy. The two main components of the system are the fish tank and the grow beds with a small pump moving water between the two. Come and join Mark Pickard as he teaches you how to set up this fascinating grow system!!

This workshop will be facilitated by Mark Pickard from Canungra Permaculture.

Mark Pickard lives with his wife on rural property in the Gold Coast hinterland where he has developed a small commercial horticultural enterprise based on permaculture ethics and design principles and markets the resultant produce to the local community. A qualified permaculturist he gained his Permaculture Design Certificate and Certificate IV in Permaculture at Djanbung Gardens under Robyn Francis in 2011. Since then he has been committed to raising permaculture’s profile to mainstream Australian industry and society by highlighting the business opportunities and improved quality of life that can be realized by operating and living within the constraints of the environment by using permaculture design principles. He is currently employed as a tutor by the Byron Region Community College to teach the Certificate IV in Permaculture.
