Event description

Description

Hand Sewing 101

Learn the basic skills of hand sewing so you can mend your own clothes. Mending can give new life to your clothes and help minimise household waste.

We'll take you through the steps of
- sewing on a button
- doing a blind hem (which you can apply to trousers and skirts)
- sewing on a snap
- sewing on a hook and eye
- basic seam repair

Feel free to bring an item of clothing that may need a repair as we can use it as an example.

It will be a 3 hour workshop with afternoon tea and coffee provided. You will also be provided with a sewing kit.

Whilst we won't be using sewing machines at this workshop, we'll discuss the possibility of future workshops and what you'd like to create.

It will be a small group of 4 - 5 participants.

The workshop will be hosted by Sandra Searle, the designer behind Elvi Design, an expert in designing and creating couture wedding gowns. Sandra has completed formal training at the WA Institute of Fashion and Textiles and spent the last 10 years working in the fashion industry.

- TESTIMONIAL -
My sewing skills were entirely non-existent. I REALLY wanted to be able to create, make, improve and repair but desire alone was not sufficient. I went along to this workshop last weekend and learnt so much in a few short hours (and met some lovely ladies at the same time).
I have now been presented a pile of my husbands work shirts to sew the buttons back on. Completely within my skill set! ~ TARA
