Event description

Description

Learn the basic techniques of hand embroidery in a small group with an experienced tutor.

In this class I’ll cover stitches, fabrics, hooping, threads, needles and show samples of different embroidery styles. I will demonstrate and provide illustrated notes for 10 different stitches for you to try out and use in a decorative stitched sampler. I'll also show you stitch variations and creative ways to "break the rules"

Light refreshments provided

Materials

Bring your own if you have them

OR

I will have all items for sale at reasonable prices (apart from scissors, but you can use mine on the day)

Embroidery hoop - I recommend one about 15-20cm in diameter

Fabric - any plain colour, close weave fabric of your choosing. 2 or 3 pieces about 5cm larger than your hoop. Eg – poplin, calico, fine weave linen or similar

Threads - 6 stranded embroidery cotton – also known as floss. Bring a variety of colours. I will discuss other types, but we will use this type in the class

Needles - Needles are not all the same! I use those which are called chenille or embroidery - size 26

Fabric pen - These have a type of ink that fades away with water so ideal for marking your fabric with a design. I'll also show other ways to mark out a design.

Scissors - small scissors with pointed tips and larger ones for fabric (Mine will be there for your use during the class if needed but bring your own)

Cost - $35 - payment in advance to secure your place. Thanks

Annie
