Event description

Description

Half + Half is the part of the Fest that is all about sharing knowledge. Please join Luke Sinclair and Jessie Lymn for two presentations on DIY culture and the role of self-published materials in communities. An informal meet+greet with festival attendees and the presenters will commence at 12pm with the first talk starting at 1pm. Tea and coffee is provided.

Luke is one of the coordinators of Melbourne's Sticky Institute, a not-for-profit zine store and artist-run workspace which has stocked over 15,000 zines since they opened their doors in 2001. He will be presenting a talk on the role of Sticky Institute within the zine community and the history of the space and its operations, as well as bringing a considerable number of zines sourced from Sticky to share with HPF.

Jessie is a print fanatic and a scholar of zines in collections. She will be presenting a talk about her recent doctorate on zines and archival practices, which involved field work in Canada, the USA and Australia. She is currently a lecturer in the School of Information Studies at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga.

Halfway Print Fest is a celebration of independent publishing held halfway between Sydney and Melbourne, in the regional centre of Wagga Wagga. HPF will bring together zine-makers, bookmakers, writers, designers and artists from the region and surrounding cities for a weekend of immersive DIY culture.
