Event Details

You're invited to the screening of Half a Million Steps, proudly sponsored by Uniting Vic.Tas, VAADA, Odyssey House and Windana.

International Overdose Awareness Day is 31 August. There is a strong need to reform our current approach to National Drug policies, as such, all over the world, events will be held to raise awareness of overdose, acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends and reduce the stigma of deaths or permanent injuries resulting from overdose.

The film covers a walk taken late last year from Dubbo to Sydney.

The walk was launched by Sir Richard Branson and the film shows interviews with prominent drug law reform advocates such as Dr. Alex Wodak, Ex Federal Police Commissioner Mick Palmer, former NSW Director of Public Prosecutions Nicholas Cowdery, and Marion McConnell, co-founder of Families and Friends for Drug Law Reform.

The film is beautifully narrated by Dr. Marianne Jauncey from the Kings Cross Injecting Centre, but the real stars of the show are the substance users who bravely tell their stories, and are enthusiastic participants in the walk.

Tickets are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
