Event description

Description

Once thought of as just a machine to churn through food and transport the good stuff in to your body and pass through the leftovers, the role of our gut is becoming increasingly more complex and more understood. Beyond it's obvious role in digestion and digestive health, there is now a growing body of scientific research showing that the gut has important roles in immune function, inflammation and risk of chronic diseases. We are also learning more and more about the way the gut and the brain 'talk' to each other through the gut-brain axis.

Come along to this workshop to learn how we can nourish our bodies to optimise our gut health and in turn, our sports performance.

This session will be facilitated by Alison Patterson, an Advanced Sports Dietitian who operates out of Torquay Sports Medicine Centre. Ali's passion is to create a generational change in the way that people relate to food and their bodies and she teaches people to focus on choices that support health and wellbeing. Ali is a strong advocate for eating mindfully and a huge adovocate for the non-diet approach. She has worked with athletes at the AIS and is currently the Sports Dietitian at the Melbourne Rebels and sits on the Board of Sports Dietitians Australia. You can find out more about Ali at www.alisonpatterson.com
