We are attempting a Guinness World Record for the most kayaks and canoes launched simultaneously. The existing record is 396, achieved by New Hampshire paddlers when they broke our previous record in 2014. We are certain that we can go past this. The launch will be from Bellerive Beach at 10am on Saturday 11 February 2017 followed by a leisurely paddle of approx. 2.5km to the Regatta Ground and then the option of either a short or a long race, both starting at the same time. Please note that exact launch time is subject to confirmation.
The short race will be around a buoy in front of Government House and back to finish in front of the Regatta Ground.
The longer race for experienced paddlers will be through the Tasman Bridge, around a buoy off Cornelian Bay and back to finish at the Regatta Ground.
Paddlers will then return to their departure point, subject to conditions being suitable.
This is a beautiful paddle from the beach in front of Bellerive Oval (Test cricket ground) past the port of Hobart and Mount Wellington to the Regatta Ground in front of the Queens Domain.
The registration fee is $5 for children and $10 for adults.
All participants will receive a special Royal Hobart Regatta/Guinness World Record Attempt Medallion.
Lets get that record back to Tassie again!!
