Event description
The University of Sydney Gambling Treatment Journal Club: April 2021

About this Event

The Gambling Treatment Clinic at the University of Sydney would like to extend an invitation to attend our next Journal Club meeting of 2021, to be held on Thursday April 15th, from 9:30am to 12 noon.

Please note that this journal club will be held both as a face-to-face meeting and concurrent online webinar. Please register here and select your mode of attendance.

Given the changes that will be occurring in the provision of problem gambling services over the upcoming months, we wanted to take time to do a very special journal club, where the experts we're inviting will be YOU. Based on the Counsellor Forum meeting that we held back in April 2018, we will be asking counsellors and researchers who work in the field of problem gambling to bring their own stories, memories and expertise in working with problem gambling to journal club, and share it with other professionals working in the area.

We want to firstly focus on tips, tricks, questions and pitfalls that you have had working with problem gambling: Is there a tip you have on something that you find helpful in a way you deliver a certain technique, a way you ask clients questions, or just something that you have found helpful that you'd like to share with other counsellors? Are there things that you have found particularly difficult and would like to hear suggestions from your colleagues about?

But as well as that, we’d also like to hear stories that you wish to share from your time working with problem gambling – any moments, light-hearted or serious, that you want to share with colleagues about your time in the sector. We really want to hear from you all, particularly those who may not have had a chance to speak at a previous journal club. We want this journal club to be a celebration of all the hard work that so many of us have put in over the years before we embark into the future. Please, bring along your ideas and questions to the group, where we will have a lively discussion where we can share knowledge of how things work at the coalface of problem gambling treatment.

If you have something you wish to share: Please send your tips or questions for the group via email to Christopher Hunt (christopher.hunt@sydney.edu.au) so that we can put you on the schedule for a space. Formal presentations are not required – use the whiteboard if you wish, or just stand up and talk. The aim is for 5-10 mins each, but this time can be adjusted based on the number of speakers and on what you'd like to talk about.

This journal club will be held as both a face-to-face meeting and online webinar. You can select your mode of attendance when registering via this page.

Please note that spaces are limited for the face-to-face session due to social distancing rules. The face-to-face meeting will be held in the Brain and Mind Centre, Level 5 Lecture Theatre, 94 Mallett St, Camperdown. Please arrive at 9am for a 9:30am start, and be mindful that street parking is often difficult in the area around the building. Please note that we have moved up to Level 5 from our previous meeting space.

If you wish to attend the webinar, please register here and select the online attendance mode when booking your ticket. You will receive an invitation to the Zoom meeting prior to the event.
