Event description

Description

This year, the Australian tech and startup sector saw more than $192 million injected into investments and acquisitions. Investor interest in startups is strong and the sector is maturing and growing every year. According to KPMG, more and more early-stage startups are achieving success and seeking funds to super-charge their growth.

We’ve seen startups like Hyper Anna, Expert360, and RateSetter raise a combined total of $39.5 million in this year alone.

How have these startups super-charged their growth? What’s their secret growth sauce?

Come along to our event Growth Trends of 2018 to look at past and future trends that dictate the growth of our startup sector. The secret growth sauce may very well lie within these future industry trends.

Last year, retailers were scrambling to future-proof their company in time for the launch of Amazon. But what will 2018 hold? It’s a dog eat dog world, and for startups, it’s either disrupt or be disrupted.

We have lined up a panel of amazing growth experts including Xingly Ho, International Growth Lead at Canva, Miles Thomas, Head of Growth at Recomazing, Jon Westenberg, CMO at Speedlancer, and our very own Growth Marketer David Quan. Together, these hackers and hustlers will tell you what spaces to watch in 2018 and where you might find that secret growth sauce.

It’s David’s mission in life to help others grow and shape their future and while working with us, he has mentored students and partnership teams on the side. In another side project, this year, David also took out the crown for Startup Weekend, with his team winning the best startup idea after having formed, pitched, launched in 52 hours.

Jon Westenberg

CMO at Speedlancer

Jon is the CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) at Speedlancer, a 500 Startups company that aims to streamline freelance productivity. Over the years, Jon has built a career on content, largely through his columns in TIME, Inc.com, The New York Observer, and his Medium blog, which has more than 120,000 readers.

Jon has helped businesses all over the world grow their audience and take control of their future. Now, he comes to Academy Xi to share his knowledge of the sector with our community.

Anna Cheng

AP Growth at Spaceship

Anna co-founded her first business at 19 years old. At 20, she took on her first role as a Growth Hacker and graduated Muru-D Syd3 with Uprise, an award-winning B2B mental health startup. Now, at 21, Anna works as Head of Growth at Spaceship, a tech-focused Super fund aimed at millennials. Anna’s philosophy is that your product should be used as a vehicle for growth – rather than something to be sprinkled on as an after-thought
