Greek Cafes and Milk Bars of Australia
Wed. 26 April 2017, 7:00 pm – 8:15 pm AEST
In an Australia we still remember, the Greek café or milk bar was open all hours, 7 days a week. They played a part in transforming Australian popular culture; influencing the eating, social and cultural habits of Australians from the very start of the twentieth century.
Historian Leonard Janiszewski and photographer Effy Alexakis offer a stunning visual and anecdotal account of the influence of Greek migration with a focus on Greek eateries in their book Greek Cafes and Milk Bars of Australia. Come along to hear about the stories, the style and the ethos that changed who we are and how we think about ourselves.
