Join us for a day of fun, creativity and all things graffiti. Learn to use an aerosol can, design letters, paint your own piece and hear how the graffiti and street art movement started with full-time graffiti artist Dan Wenn from 90 Degrees Art.
This introductory workshop will cover the history, techniques and tools of graffiti, aerosol and street art with loads of hands on painting and sketching time and guided 1:1 technical practice.
Here is what we'll cover:
- The history of graffiti and street art – from New York to Melbourne
- Artistic styles and processes
- Safety equipment and best practice
- Understanding spray cans and nozzles
- Spray painting techniques – line work, filling in, blending colours
- Letter styles and sketching
- Resources for inspiration
- The anatomy of a graffiti piece – demo and guided piece painting
- Sketching and colour selection
- Painting a piece
No creativity or experience required – just enthusiasm!
You must be over 18 to attend this workshop (proof of age is required).
All painting equipment, drawing materials and protective gear will be provided. We’ve also got morning and afternoon tea covered. There is a great café in the Gasworks park or you can bring your own lunch (there’s a fridge).
For those interested in continuing their practice at home, we've included the option of buying an aerosol starter pack with your registration at a discounted price. The pack includes a box of six spray cans, a respirator, a painting board and a nozzel pack. Packs will also be available for purchase on the day of the workshop at a cost of $120 and so will individual cans of spray paint.
PLEASE NOTE: Your health and safety is our foremost concern. We provide masks and other protective gear for mandatory use while painting, and dedicate a portion of the workshop to health and safety guidelines while using aerosols. While we take every precaution to minimize health and safety risks associated with spray painting throughout this workshop, spray paint may still pose a risk to some people, and students of this workshop are advised that they participate at their own risk.
