Session 1_KG - Child Separation & Social Anxiety in Children 2-5 yrs

Session Time: 9:30am - 11:00am

Presenter Bio:

Emmalie Balmanno

Emmalie is a clinical psychologist with experience working with children and families across the developmental span from pregnancy/infancy, childhood and up to adolescence. She has worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient mental health facilities, outpatient clinics and in the community. Emmalie holds a Master of Clinical Psychology and has co-authored academic publications in the areas of parenting stress and guilt. Clinically, Emmalie primarily works in the areas of child development and early intervention for emotional and behavioural difficulties in early childhood.

Session Description:

Many children experience worries including social and separation anxiety from time to time. For some children this becomes so significant that it impacts their day-to-day activities, including participating in a gymnastics class. In this session we will identify what social anxiety looks like and the factors which influence this among children. We will discuss how separation anxiety and seeking parental connection can be a normal part of a child’s development and the parent-child relationship. Further, the factors which contribute to some children experiencing severe separation anxiety which affects their activity participation will also be discussed. Finally, strategies that can assist coaches in building rapport with and to support children experiencing these anxieties during classes will be provided.

Session 2_KG - Emotional Regulation for Children 0-5 yrs

Presenter Bio:

Rebecca Lathlean

Rebecca is a Senior Occupational Therapist from Therabees in Adelaide that offers Children’s Therapy Services. Rebecca has worked in the paediatric field for almost 7 years and has a range of experience working in both community spaces and in the clinic environment. Rebecca has assisted with the support of children and families with various conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Global Developmental Delay and Cerebral Palsy. Furthermore, Rebecca has completed additional training to support families and children with Mental Health concerns, casting and splinting and upper limb neurorehabilitation.

Session Description:

This session will cover emotional regulation principles specifically tailored to 0 - 5 year old’s. This includes the development of emotional regulation; strategies adults can use to support children with their emotional regulation and the impact of emotional regulation development on the child's presenting behaviour.

Session 3_KG - Understanding & Supporting Developmental Milestones in your KG Program

Presenter Bio:

Naomi Nye

With 25+ years of experience and knowledge in Gymnastics, Naomi has developed creative and easy implementation programs that allow for inclusion, accessibility, and diversity across all Gymsports. With her expertise she is a keen educator from club to university levels. Naomi has a passion for education and encouraging others to provide a positive learning and coaching experience in their clubs, schools, and early learning environments.

Session Description:

KinderGym programs provide a perfect environment to support a child's sensory, motor, cognitive, emotional, social and language development. This session will touch on the key milestones of the ages and stages of children attending your KG program and how to introduce activities that support them.

Session Recordings

All registrants will automatically be given access to view the recordings in the weeks following the online sessions. If you know you will be unable to attend the online sessions live but would like to view the recordings, please continue through the ticket purchasing process as normal.

To help keep background noise to a minimum, make sure you mute your microphone when you are not speaking.

When your microphone is not muted, avoid activities that could create additional noise.

 Position your camera properly

Be sure it is in a stable position and focused at eye level, if possible. Doing so helps create a more direct sense of engagement with the presenter and other participants. We encourage all attendees to leave their camera on.
